The gospel is that God our Creator created us to love and worship Him forever and to lavish His love on us.
But we rebelled against Him and through Adam sin entered all of humanity. We are now by nature children of wrath. We all have broken God’s laws, we have mocked Him, we have thought of ourselves as gods, and for that we stand guilty before Him.
God is Holy and Righteous, and will leave no sin unpunished. We all deserve God’s wrath. But God didn’t leave us there without hope.
Out of His great love for us He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, God the Son, truly God and truly man, born of a virgin. Jesus did what the first Adam could not – He perfectly kept the law, was without sin, and showed us the loving character of God not only in how He lived, but ultimately in how He died.
His death was not just the physical pain of being nailed to a cross – the cup that Jesus drank was the wrath of God for our sins. He was our spotless lamb, sacrificed to atone for our sins and make us right with God. He was forsaken by the Father so we could be reconciled to Him, He became sin who knew no sin so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. He took our sin and credited to us His righteousness.
But He didn’t stop there. He rose again three days later, proving that He conquered sin and death, that the Father had accepted Him as a worthy sacrifice, that in Him we will have new life too.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father. And next time He returns He won’t come as a suffering servant, but He will come to Judge the living and the dead as King of Kings and Lord of Lords to bring in the new heavens and new earth.
Through faith alone in Christ alone we can receive the free gift of grace and be forgiven for our sins against our Creator, we can go from enemies of God to friends, adopted as His children into His loving family. We can be reconciled to our loving creator God and worship Him forever as He had created us to do, being united with Christ in His death and resurrection.
But remember, God will leave no sin unpunished – those who don’t put their faith in Christ will pay for their own sins in forever in eternity.
So repent and trust in Christ. Receive the free gift of grace through faith while there’s still time. Amazing grace!
Do you know this gospel? Do you love it or are you ashamed of it? There is no other gospel according to scripture. This is the good news that is the power for salvation for all who would believe.
